3.8.20 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Time

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11 ESV)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• A time to be born, a time to die… A time to kill, a time to heal… A time to cry, a time to laugh… A time mourn, a time to dance… a time to leave the clocks alone and stop springing forward and falling back… Wait. That last one isn’t actually in the Bible.

Groan! My comfort is knowing whoever came up with Daylight Savings Time is going to have to answer to God for messing around with the clocks…

Today, let’s go to Ecclesiastes 3:1. It says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…” and then, verses 2-8 outline the various times that I just summarized and that the Byrd’s sang about in 1965.

The positives and negatives that Solomon wrote about in Ecclesiastes 3 are seasonal. We all go through various seasons, the ups and downs of life. But let’s spring forward (see what I did there??) and go to verse 11. It says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”

The beauty that Solomon spoke of is far more than the beauty of the earth. The beauty of the seasons, the ebbs and flows of life reflect the beautiful consistency of God’s nature! He is real and He is in control! Even when things seem chaotic and a big mess, He will make everything beautiful in His perfect timing!

I love this. While we can’t know every nuance of God’s hand, we feel it. And we can trust it. His work is good (Genesis 1:31).

Then, there’s the eternity in our hearts. Even people who don’t believe in God speak in terms of eternity. Certainly, “I’ll love you forever,” is far more optimistic and hopeful than, “I’ll love you until I’m dead.”

But getting back on point, we instinctually embrace the concept of eternity even though it’s a concept beyond human understanding. It’s that craving for eternity that causes us to search for a Savior. Humans have a spiritual craving that is only satisfied by Jesus Christ! Eternity begins and ends with Jesus, the Alpha and Omega (Hebrews 13:8, Revelation 22:13) and He is the only way to eternal life (John 14:6).

Today, as you pray, thank God for His consistency that we can rely on… thank Him for making all things beautiful and for the gift of eternal life through Jesus! Ask the Holy Spirit to help you trust in His guidance through the various seasons of life.
