My Grace-Full Life

3.6.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Gifts & Cattails

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• When I was a kid, my mom had an arrangement of dried cattails in our formal living room (it was the late 70s/early 80s y’all…).
For her sake, I’m glad YouTube wasn’t around back then to show me what happens when you break one open.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go to YouTube and search for videos that show “break a cattail.”
It’s like a nature version of Dr. Pimple.
In 1 Peter 4:10, it says, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace…”
With that verse in mind, it always bothers me when I hear someone say they don’t have a gift.
Peter didn’t write “some of us have a gift.”
He said each one of us has a gift.
So I want you to imagine what it would look like if each of us allowed our gifts to be broken free from our doubts and insecurities.
Think of the broken cattail and how the fibers burst out of the casing and scatter in the wind.
How could our gifts, once we let them go, scatter and benefit the kingdom of God?
You have a gift.
Maybe several.
And as the saying goes, “Your talents are God’s gift to you. What you do with them is your gift back to God.”
If you aren’t sure what your gift is, pray for the Holy Spirit to show you.
Then let Him use you and your gift to His purpose.
Today, as you pray, thank God for the gifts that make us unique.
Pray for opportunities to use your gifts for the Lord and ask that all credit be given to God.
