My Grace-Full Life

3.31.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: God’s Patience

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I have a lot of favorite verses in the Bible.
And today’s signature verse is one of them.
2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
As impatient as I get sometimes when my prayers seem to go unanswered, I come back to this verse.
The standout words for me have always been that God wants everyone to repent.
But today, let’s focus on “[He] is patient toward you.”
I’m so glad God is far more patient than I am.
After all, it took me 18 years to start revisiting a relationship with Him and a few more before I got really serious about it.
I’m grateful He was willing to wait for the better part of two decades for me to get my head on straight.
And so when we are discouraged about what we perceive to be slowness, let’s take a minute to pause and be thankful that He is so lovingly patient.
God waits for us.
He doesn’t throw His hands up and say, “I give up. They are a lost cause.”
No, He is always watching, like the father of the prodigal.
Always waiting for us to come to Him.
Waiting to welcome anyone with a repentant heart into His great, wide open arms.
Today, as you pray, thank God for His patience.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you be patient too and to remember that in the waiting, it’s a great time to praise God for His love, mercy, kindness, and greatness.
