3.30.17 Prayer Prompt: Rejoice

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Philippians 4:4 tells us to “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.”
In good and prosperous times, this is so easy.
It’s easy to rejoice when things go our way and the world is full of sunshine and daisies.
But this part of scripture doesn’t put limitations on WHEN to rejoice. We’re simply told to rejoice. Period.
Even when we’re sad.
Even when the world feels like it’s tipped on its axis.
We are to rejoice.
The confusion, I think, is because most people assume rejoicing is an emotional party, complete with disco ball and party favors.
But rejoicing, even in the darkest hours, is rooted in the joy that we have a Heavenly Father who loved us enough to send Jesus…. we have Jesus who loves us enough to be nailed to the cross for OUR sins… we have the Holy Spirit who is there to provide us comfort and guidance.
We have the Trinity — one God who offers three distinct roles for our lives and Who, in those roles, can meet every single need we could ever have.
No one said we can’t be sad. Even Jesus wept.
But every high and low of our lives must be rooted in the joy of our relationship with Christ.
We may cry, but when we have that connection, even in our darkest hours, we have peace.
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to help you find joy in the Lord. Ask Him to help you reflect on all God has done for you and sit in awe of His goodness.
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 — But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
