TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:15-16 ESV)
PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Another Sunday and another week to adjust our worship. Despite the circumstances, I’m really excited about all of these creative ways people are doing church these days. Besides live streaming, I’ve heard of churches where the congregations gathered in parking lots to hear sermons and participate from their cars (like a drive-in movie except church). People are sharing sermon links and Christian artists are performing from their living rooms.
I don’t know if it’s my particular group of Facebook friends and pages I follow, but I see that the church is alive and shining through this pandemic. I hope it’s this way for you too!
No matter what shows up in your unique social media feed, we have a prime opportunity to live out the words of Jesus. In Matthew 5:15-16, Jesus said, “Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Now, more than ever, we need to let our light shine. People need hope. And hope is only found in Jesus.
Peter wrote, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” and a few verses later, “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:3, 6-7).
Y’all, fire shines and we are being refined. Let’s make sure we’re burning brightly and letting others see the faith we have in Jesus! Let others catch the spark of hope so that they too can shine for the world to see! And through it all, let’s praise and worship our Savior! Let’s make sure that no matter what challenges we face over the coming weeks and months, we give Him glory, praise, and honor! Because He is still our resurrected Lord and He is still on the throne!
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for the opportunity to be a light for Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to embolden your heart and let others know that your hope is found in Jesus!
