PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• This morning was the first time I’ve sat down with my Bible since Monday.
And I have missed it!
Little did I know when I went to the hospital on Monday morning, I wouldn’t go home again until Wednesday and only then, because I desperately needed a shower and fresh clothes.
My sweet husband brought me a few things on Tuesday, but in my sleep-deprived mind, I didn’t tell him to bring me what I really needed most—my Bible and prayer journal.
And a blanket.
(The hospital was freezing.)
I’m grateful for my Bible app and resources I have on my phone, but nothing is better than sitting down with the Bible and physically holding the Word of God.
While I hope there are no more hospital visits in our near future, the new emergency packing kit is Bible, prayer journal, and blanket before anything else.
When Jesus was in the wilderness, Satan tempted a very hungry Jesus to turn the stones into loaves of bread.
But Jesus refused to succumb to temptation and said, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4).
Biblical starvation is a real thing and it’s a tremendous problem in our world.
We need the Word of God.
It’s not a when-emergency-strikes tool.
It’s essential for daily living.
Even more than food and water to sustain our temporary physical bodies, because God’s word sustains our eternal souls.
This is one of the things I love about Proverbs 31 Ministries’ mission—“To eradicate the world of Biblical poverty.”
Isn’t that a beautiful and bold mission statement?
Biblical hunger is prevalent in our society and the thing is, many people don’t even know they are starving.
It’s another reason why our calling to be the hands and feet of Jesus is crucial.
We have to let others know that the God-sized hole in their hearts can be filled with Jesus and the Word of God!
Today, as you pray, thank God for His word…
His love letter to us that is both timeless and crucial to our spiritual growth.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you crave the Word of God in a way that feeds your soul every day, and equip you to share it with others.
