PRAISE PROMPT ••• When a woman is in labor, her medical team will encourage her to focus on one thing.
Focus on a face.
Make eye contact.
Don’t glance away.
They want her focused, rather than distracted by pain or feeling overwhelmed and scared by what they are doing to help her.
Whether giving birth, cooking dinner, planning an event, or even preparing for a big meeting—we need focus.
Ask anyone who got distracted from an oven full of cookies about that!
I’d guess 99.9% of us can fall victim to Shiny Object Syndrome and lose our focus.
And when we’re trying to do what God has asked us to do, distraction is a favorite tool of Satan’s.
But the Bible encourages us to stay focused.
Proverbs 4:25-27 NLT says, “Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.”
And Colossians 3:2 says, “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”
Those who have accepted Christ are headed for heaven, so we should be focused on what’s to come, rather than distracted by temporary matters.
Someday, none of it’s going to matter.
Isaiah 65:17 ESV tells us, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.”
The shiny things that tempt us to lose focus on Jesus will not be remembered when we are in heaven.
However, anything we do for Christ will be!
Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
I don’t know about you, but I know how much time I’ve wasted being distracted from Jesus.
I want to spend what’s left of my life making memories for heaven.
I want to focus on Him and do the things that will be remembered and rewarded.
Nothing else matters as much as that!
Today, let’s praise our Savior and ask the Holy Spirit to help us stay focused on Heavenly-matters, rather than earthly ones!
Let’s thank Him for preparing a place for us where our focus will be perfect and for we will spend eternity making happy memories with Jesus!
