3.23.20 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Rely On the Lord

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• For the king relies on the Lord; through the faithful love of the Most High he is not shaken. (Psalm 21:7 CSB)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Psalm 21 is a psalm of celebration. King David wrote it as a praise Psalm to magnify the goodness of God. Words like joy, strength, victory, blessings, life, and glory paint a praise-worthy picture of God’s greatness and majesty.

But we know King David’s story. It wasn’t all roses and rainbows. From humble beginnings as a shepherd, he went on to fight Goliath, he was hunted down and chased by his predecessor, and even his own son tried to destroy him. David had his share of trials and personal stumbles, and yet, throughout his life, he remained a “man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14).

So Psalm 21:7 really stands out to me. I’m using the CSB translation today and it says, “For the king relies on the Lord; through the faithful love of the Most High he is not shaken.”

We’re going to personalize this verse. Please insert your name: “For __________ relies on the Lord; through the faithful love of the Most High __________ is not shaken.”

Do these words apply to you? Does the sentence ring true? Can you say that despite your circumstances, you are relying on God? Can you declare that you are not shaken?

Like David, we’ve all had our ups and downs and personal hardships. And right now, we collectively face the difficult circumstances of the world’s coronavirus outbreak. And for many, the words of joy, strength, victory, blessings, life, and glory are not words they think of when it comes to their life right now—or maybe even pre-coronavirus.

Yet, no matter our situation or what curve balls life throws at us, if we, like David, rely on the Lord, He is faithful. We don’t have to be shaken by circumstances because God is good. It’s not our joy—it’s His. It’s not our strength—it’s His. It’s not our victory, blessings, life, and glory—they are all His! If we can keep all of that in perspective and recognize that only through Him can we experience those things, it won’t matter whether we’re working in the fields as a shepherd, sitting on the throne as a king, or sitting at home waiting out a virus.

God is good. Through His faithful love, we do not have to be shaken.

Today, as you pray, thank God for all His goodness! Ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize your reliance on Him alone! Ask Him to help you lean on Him no matter where you are today or tomorrow.
