3.17.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Check Your Heart

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• If you’re familiar with Christian comedian John Crist, you know one of his favorite phrases is “Check your heart.”
While he often says it in an effort to be funny (and it works—the man cracks me up!), the jokes are walking hand-in-hand with wisdom.
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
The truth is, without regular diligence to self-reflect on our words and actions, sin can overtake us.
We may not even be aware of.
Compare it to an oil check for your car.
You can’t just endlessly drive around without making sure you have oil in the car.
Similarly, you can’t just go about living, assuming that because you’re a Christian and go to church, everything is fine.
Check your heart for sins and habits that may be keeping you from enjoying perfect fellowship with God the Father.
Check your heart to make sure you’re following God’s will, not your own.
Check your heart to see if you’re living in a way that reflects Jesus Christ in your life.
Checking our hearts isn’t something we can do once and forget about.
It’s an ongoing, lifelong exercise.
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to convict your heart of anything that is standing in the way of perfect fellowship between you and God.
Ask Him to help you do regular maintenance checks so that your heart is an ongoing reflection of God’s grace, mercy, and love.
