3.12.21 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Trust

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31 NKJV)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• If you ever want to slow down time, do this: let your hair grow out to the point that the roots are so bad, you won’t leave the house without a hat. And then, have your hairstylist reschedule your appointment for a week later. I am speaking from personal (and recent) experience. Thankfully, my personal crisis has been averted. The roots have left the building.

But it wasn’t easy. Off and on for the last 12ish years, I’ve colored my hair almost a garnet-shade of red. I love it. But as I get older and the roots grow in grayer and grayer — not so much. I think (sniff) I’m done with red. It’s just too hard a color to maintain. So my hairstylist had to bleach my hair yesterday to lift the red and re-color / highlight / whatever she did to bring my hair to a place where the roots will blend better as my hair grows.

Y’all, at one point yesterday, my roots were vibrant yellow, and my hair was fire engine red. I trust my hairstylist, but I admit, I did a pretty big gulp. I had no idea where she was going with this plan as she assured me it would look good when she was finished. And, TA-DA! She made it work.

We trust our hairstylists to do their job. We trust the chefs at our favorite restaurants to fix our food. We trust airplanes and pilots to get us from Point A to Point B. We trust our banks to handle our money.

I could go on. We trust all these imperfect people to meet our expectations.

But we doubt God.

Why? Of all the ones who can let us down, He never has! He’s perfect! No mistakes! And according to Jeremiah 29:11, He has a plan!

Scripture tells us over and over and over again — trust in God. And yet, we put more faith in people and things than we do our Creator.

Jesus once said to Peter, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31b NKJV) And I am pretty sure He says it of you and me sometimes too. Especially as I pray and watch God’s plan unfold with perfect precision and timing, feeling amazed at what He is doing. I’m sure Jesus looks at me with loving eyes and says, “O, Denise, you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

And other times, I’m pretty sure He facepalms Himself, but that’s a different blog…

As we go about our days, trusting the various professionals to do what they do, let’s use those moments as a reminder… if we can trust them, how much more can we trust our Heavenly Father.

Today, as you pray, thank God for being perfectly trustworthy and for His good and perfect plan for your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you trust and overcome the temptation to doubt.
