PRAYER PROMPT ••• Last night, my son and I went to one of our favorite places, Barnes & Noble.
(Ahhhh… the smell of paper, ink, and coffee.)
In typical fashion, upon arrival, I went right, he went left.
We met back up in the comic book section, where my son sat on the floor to look (unsuccessfully) for a particular comic.
I woke up thinking about this.
People are searching for fulfillment in all the wrong places.
It’s as if they are in a bookstore with rows and rows of shelves.
And none of them are labeled except one, and it’s labeled “The Answer You’re Looking For.”
Yet they keep searching through stacks upon stack of books, refusing to acknowledge the shelf that has one lone book on it, and a great big sign identifying it as the solution!
As the saying goes, “Some people can’t see the forest for the trees!”
I’ve done my fair share of digging through endless rows, ignoring the obvious.
I finally went to that labeled shelf and picked up the book that had everything I was looking for.
Most of all, it had the One I was looking for.
The One who could quench my soul and be the fulfillment I needed.
The One who could offer me what nothing or no one else could offer.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-8, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
If you are a believer, you know the Truth.
You know what it is to search through endless rows of options that never measure up.
You know the answer.
You know the truth of what Jesus said – if we seek Him, we will find Him!
He will not hide from anyone who wants to know Him.
We have to do our part to encourage others to visit that lone bookshelf.
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to encourage your heart and help you be bold enough to live a life for Christ that causes others to say, “I want what they have.”
Ask for the words to direct them to the answer when they ask.
And pray for a revival of faith for a world that continues to plunge further into darkness.
