2.12.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: The Difference Light Makes

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I love twinkle lights.

While my husband and I are never going to agree on the proper number of lights for a Christmas tree (two strands for him, 12 strands for me), we both love the ambiance that twinkle lights give to our screened in porch.

It looks so pretty when they are on.

And we have two lamps in our living room that we both like to have on in the evening.

Lighting matters.

(My interior decorating friends, Kelly and Ava, are so proud of me right now!)

Light gives us a way to see what we’re eating; what we’re reading; what we’re writing; who we’re talking to.

But more than that, it gives warmth, comfort, and hope.

It gives peace on those dark stormy nights…

Just as Jesus gives warm welcome to anyone who wants to come to Him, as well as comfort, hope, and peace…

For those of us who believe in Jesus, 1 Thessalonians 5:5 calls us “the children of light.”

The whole verse says, “For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.”

And just as a lamp allows others in the room to see, so are we responsible for allowing others to see what Jesus can do through our average, ordinary lives.

It’s our job to be the light to a dark world.

A few verses later, picking up at verse 8, it says, “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.”

Our faith, love, and hope reflect the light of Jesus and magnify the brightness for the world to see.

The world calls us different, but when our lights shine for Jesus, others see that it’s not different, but it’s a difference.

We all have a God-sized hole in our hearts, and Jesus, the Light of the world, is the only way to fill it.

And that is the different something that makes all the difference.

If you want to change the world, shine brightly for Jesus.

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for coming to be the Light of the world.

Thank Him that we are welcome in His presence and thank Him for the comfort, hope, and peace that only He can offer.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you shine with the difference that only Jesus can make.
