10.14.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Pray For Our President & Leaders

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Disclaimer!

I make it a point not to discuss politics, and I’m not about to start.

With that said, I want to talk about what happened at the White House this weekend.

Yesterday, American Pastor Andrew Brunson returned to the US after two years of imprisonment in Turkey.

As I watched the Live feed of his meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office, I was moved to tears at the way Pastor Brunson slipped down to one knee to pray for our president.

He set an example that I think all Christians need to be reminded of…

1 Timothy 2:1-4 says, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Praying for our leaders is both biblical and pleasing to God.

The following is not in an attempt to be critical, but to state a real concern…

In the last several years, I’ve seen many Christians turn to Facebook to blast our president and our leaders.

But this isn’t about Republicans vs. Democrats.

It really doesn’t matter if you like our current leadership, or if you can’t stand them.

If you are a Christian, you are called to pray for them…

To pray they will be wise and have success, and do what is right for our country.

It is not right for Christians to wish for anyone’s failure but we have a responsibility to remember Paul’s words in Romans 13:1, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.”

Today, as you pray, thank God for the release and safe return of Pastor Brunson.

And pray for others who are held prisoner because they have shared the Gospel or refused to renounce Jesus Christ.

Give praise to God for the example Pastor Brunson set in praying for President Trump.

And today, pray for our president, vice-president, congressmen and women, our Senate, judges, governors, mayors, and all those who are leading our national, state, and local governments.
