PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I was driving home last night and listening to Joy FM.
I don’t usually listen to music when I’m driving, but I wanted some worship music last night.
I wish I’d caught the name of the song, because as I learned this morning, googling the keywords, “God’s hands, ocean, mountain, hold me,” brings back a lot of options.
The point of the song though was the same Hands that made the universe are holding us.
It’s a beautiful, comforting truth that has apparently inspired many songwriters through the years.
As I listened to the music, my heart hurt for all of those who are wallowing in defeat and hurt, not willing to accept that Jesus is offering His hands.
He has them right there, extended to anyone willing to grasp them.
And He promises to never let go.
In John 10:27-30, Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”
No matter what happens, when we trust in Jesus, He will not let us go.
He won’t drop us.
He won’t put us down and forget where He put us.
He won’t change His mind and throw us away.
He is the One whose promises we can trust and He’s the One who will never leave us.
I wish more people understood the wisdom of Psalm 63:8 which says, “I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.”
The chaos and craziness of life don’t have to overwhelm us as long as we cling to God.
I think the important term though is “cling.”
While He’s holding us securely, we need to hold Him right back.
And to cling isn’t a light touch.
It’s grasping, hold tight clutch we can’t be pried loose from.
That requires faith.
Not a casual kind of loose belief, but a deep-in-your-gut, I-know-God’s-got-this kind of faith.
Unwavering faith that God is in control.
He has the whole world in His hands.
(And no, that wasn’t the song—I’ll know it when I hear it again).
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for extending His hands.
Ask Him to help you cling tightly right back so that when your world is shaking, you can feel secure in your grip on His goodness and truth, and have the confidence that He is holding you securely right back.
