6.20.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: The Road to Nowhere

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• In Bryson City, NC, there’s a stretch of road known as “The Road to Nowhere.”

Technically, the road is called Lakeview Drive and it was meant to be a 30-mile stretch of road that led through the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

But the project ended at six miles. It’s an interesting bit of history to look up if you have time.

It’s also an interesting name.

The locals certainly had their reasons for calling it “The Road to Nowhere,” but let’s take that nickname and discuss how it applies to our own lives.

Satan has his own road he wants us to travel.

He’s really good at making promises and making the trip sound great.

He wants to lure us into false security and schemes that look scenic and peaceful, but lead to misery and chaos.

He promises adventures that are fun and thrilling, but he fails to mention the consequences.

I’ve certainly traveled that road before and from personal experience, I can attest to this truth…

The pretty scenery along the Spiritual Road to Nowhere is nothing but a facade.

There is nothing good about that road.

We are warned in 1 Peter 5:8, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

And in John 8:44b, Jesus said, “He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Therefore, with all that said, how do we avoid the Spiritual Road to Nowhere?

Unfortunately, because we are imperfect humans, we’ll all travel down it to some degree.

And the longer we stay on it, the darker and darker it becomes.

There are plenty of twists and turns because the Father of Lies is highly experienced in twisting the truth.

His Spiritual Road to Nowhere is reflective of it.

But the great news is that God gives us plenty of off-ramps if we are diligent about looking for them.

Because Jesus is the Light of the world.

He said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

While Satan wants to blind people from seeing that Light (2 Corinthians 4:4), the Light of Jesus can always be seen by those who are diligent and want to find it (Jeremiah 29:13).

It’s up to us whether we want to travel the Spiritual Road to Nowhere, or take an exit and re-route to the Spiritual Road of Everlasting Life.

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for offering us a better way.

Please pray for those who are on the wrong road and who need the courage and direction to take the exit.

If that’s you, and you want to follow the Light of Jesus, please visit the page “Finding Faith” on my website, or call a trusted resource such as Proverbs 31 Ministries (Proverbs31.org • 877.731.4663) or InTouch Ministries (InTouch.org • 800-789-1473).

There are many others, but those are my two personal favorites.

Friends, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading MGFL.

I am so blessed to take this faith journey with you and I am praying for you.
