6.10.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Stop and Listen

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• We have a dog named Sadie who, in the last couple of months, has started showing signs of doggie dementia, which I didn’t know was a real thing until a year or so ago.

When Wayne and I met, he’d had Sadie for about six years, and I have to admit, Sadie and I have never grown particularly close.

She was a yappy dog who liked to lick and I was a cat person who didn’t like yappy dogs who licked.

But my husband has always doted on her, and I have to admit, she’s a great little dog (if having a dog glued to your side around the clock is your thing and your name happens to be Wayne)…

And she’s fiercely loyal.

But the changes in her have been very sad to watch, even for me (I’ve grown fond of her over time, though she’s definitely Wayne’s dog).

We’re doing what we can to make sure she stays safe and eats.

Despite the fact that she is half-deaf now and can’t see very well, she still recognizes Wayne’s voice.

She gets confused and walks into walls, but when Wayne says her name, she stops to listen.

Maybe we can learn a lot from Sadie.

In Isaiah 46:4, God said, “I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”

He is caring for us but we still have a responsibility in this relationship.

To listen and obey.

Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

No matter where we are in our lives… young and full of hope and possibilities… middle aged and trying to juggle responsibilities… or old and on the back end of our earthly journey… our God is the same.

He is looking over us and taking care of us.

From the day we accept Jesus in our hearts, we need to follow Him and be willing to obey, no matter our circumstances.

When God calls your name, do you stop to listen?

Today, as you pray, thank God for being with us from Day 1.

He created us and knows us from the inside out, better than we know ourselves.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you listen.

To always be willing to stop what you’re doing to listen and obey when God calls your name.
