6.5.28 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Making Eye-Contact with God

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Whenever I go to one of my husband’s shows, I love to watch the eye contact between him and the other musicians.

They have an unspoken language with each other and they “talk” through the music.

Sometimes their eyes say, “This is so much fun,” or “Oops! I messed up there,” or “We need to adjust the volume.”

I’ve learned that the silent dialogue taking place on the stage is a major part of the band process.

There are plenty of circumstances in which people carefully watch others to gauge what needs to happen next.

From wedding planners silently cueing the bridal party to move…

To a co-worker silently pleading for a team member to back them up during a meeting…

To giving our children directions on their behavior…

We use our eyes to communicate on a regular basis.

We can even lock eyes with a stranger and share moments of unspoken understanding—in grocery store lines, at the coffee shop, etc.

In Psalm 123:2 NLT, it says, “We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal.”

The question today is this: are you making eye-contact with God?

Are you watching Him, waiting for cues on His plan and direction?

In Ephesians 1:17-18 ESV Paul prayed, “…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints…”

I love Paul’s wording in this verse—“having the eyes of your heart enlightened” so we can know the plans God has for us.

That takes place when we do as the Psalmist describes—when we watch our Heavenly Father, listen to Him through prayer and His holy word.

Today, as you pray, praise the Father for His ongoing willingness to communicate with us.

Ask Him to help you make eye-contact with Him, so you can understand His plans, know Him better, and follow His will for your life.
