11.30.17 Prayer Prompt: The Eraser

PRAYER PROMPT ••• You know those big pink erasers?

They are in the shape of a rectangle with slanted ends.

They aren’t huge, but one of them would get even the worst speller through high school, and at least half of college.

I love those things.

I keep one in my prayer journal because my mechanical pencil is more likely to run out of eraser than lead.

It didn’t occur to me that was funny until it came up in a conversation with some friends.

They teased me about my obsessive need to spell and punctuate my prayers correctly.

I laughed with them because they were right; I had never given it a thought.

Since our prayers are all beautiful to God – it doesn’t matter.

If I misspell a word, He knows what I mean.

He’s not nearly as worried about comma placement as I am.

And He can even read my hybrid-writing that is half cursive, half print.

But beyond that, Jesus has an eraser that removes our sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalms 103:12).

And more amazing – I have access to it, and so do you!

The eraser takes the form of a repentant heart that confesses it’s imperfections.

As Christians, we want to do the right thing and be more like Christ.

But we mess up.

We are flawed and try as we might, perfection is unattainable.

Jesus is the only one who ever lived whose life wasn’t marred by eraser tracks and eraser dust.

He who lived a life of perfection allowed Himself to be marred with all our ugly sins and mistakes when He hung on the cross.

But how amazing is His grace to us?

He hung there; He died there; and He rose from the dead three days later – all to offer us a clean future, free from sin, with the promise of eternal life with Him!

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

So there’s the eraser!

Confession of Jesus Christ!

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for His willingness to erase your sins and give you a bright future with Him.

A future that is eternal and will be free from mistakes, errors, and sins.
