11.24.17 Prayer Prompt: The Love of Jesus

PRAYER PROMPT ••• If you grew up in Sunday School, you might remember the children’s song, “Jesus Loves the Little Children.”

It was a bouncy little tune, and the chorus lyrics are, “Jesus loves the little children / All the children of the world / Black and yellow, red and white / They’re all precious in His sight / Jesus loves the little children of the world.”

The song was on my mind this morning, and I didn’t remember the rest of it.

I had to look it up.

The verses are powerful reminders of Jesus’ love for us, even if we’re more children at heart than actual children.

I’m going to concentrate on two of the three:

VERSE 1: Whether you’re rich or whether you’re poor / It matters not to Him / He remembers where you’re going / Not where you’ve been

VERSE 2: If your heart is troubled / Don’t worry, don’t you fret / He knows that you have heard His call / And he won’t forget

Don’t you love that?

Especially the last part of Verse 1, “He remembers where you’re going, not where you’ve been.”

We’re the ones who spend so much time looking in the rearview mirror.

But not God.

This verse is the embodiment of Jeremiah 29:11’s promise, “For I know the plans I have for you,” combined with the truth of Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Friends, this is a reminder my heart needed.

Then, in Verse 2, “If your heart is troubled, don’t worry, don’t you fret.”

A reminder rooted in the words of Philippians 4:6, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

This verse is the basis of the Max Lucado book I just read, but I’m thankful for another reminder as I try to live that truth for myself.

It’s another reminder for moments of discouragement and anxiety.

Thank you, Jesus, for putting this song on my heart so I could be reminded of these truths!

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for the wisdom found in this simple children’s song.

Thank Him for loving all of us, for knowing our futures and forgiving us of our pasts; for knowing our heart’s deepest longings and the peace He offers as He works out every detail.
