11.4.17 Prayer Prompt: Lessons From a Feather

PRAYER PROMPT ••• When I was a little girl, if I found a feather, I’d rub it against my face and arms.

Then my mother would catch me and yell at me to drop it because she was worried about germs.

The 42 year old version of me appreciates my mother’s warnings, but I still love the feel of feathers.

They represent soft and warm comfort.

It’s little wonder that feather pillows and down comforters are so magnificent because of the luxurious softness and warm comfort they provide.

Then, there’s the other side of a feather which is often undervalued: strength.

Feathers are strong enough to help a bird fly.

In fact, a bird cannot fly without them.

So is the same with God.

He gently holds our futures in His hands.

Job 12:10 says, “For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.”

Because He holds our lives, we can trust the promise of Jeremiah 29:11, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”

God offers comfort.

Jesus said in Matthew 28:11, “‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”

And 2 Corinthians 1:3b says, “God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.”

His strength sustains us.

People are so foolish to think they can rely on themselves.

And I’m the worst.

I want to be self-sufficient, but I’m not strong enough.

He is.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

His strength holds us tenderly and offers us comfort and rest because He loves us.

Thanks to Jesus, those who have believed have comfort and strength through grace and mercy extended through the gift of salvation.

Hebrews 4:16 says, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Today, as you pray, praise God for His endless comfort and strength.

Thank Him for protecting you and providing all you need and more.

Thank Him for the mercy and grace He shows you every day.
