Is it ever enough?
We’re always in a big hurry to get to our next thing.
I refer to our culture as a fast-food culture.
We want it hot and we want it now.
We don’t have time wait.
Every second counts.
After all, that Facebook feed isn’t going to scroll by itself, right?
I’m not judging.
I’m the best of the best.
I can load up my to-do list better than anyone.
I can pile everything on my plate and no, I don’t need your help.
I can do it myself.
And when I say my cup overfloweth, it’s because I over-poured the coffee.
Seriously, I’m that good.
Like so many, I’m often too busy to look around and appreciate what I have.
It’s easy to miss the blessings before us.
This isn’t the life God designed for us.
We may all be doing it, but there’s nothing normal about the way we live.
Jeremiah 2:25a says, “When will you stop running? When will you stop panting after other gods?”
Yes – anything that we put as a priority over Jesus is a god.
We may not bow down and worship it, but if ranks higher on the to-do list than nurturing a relationship with God, there’s a big problem.
But go back to the first part. “When will you stop running?”
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
Then, let’s go to Philippians 4:19 which says, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
So why are we running?
Why can’t we be still and thank God for all He’s given us?
We all have responsibilities, of course, but do our loads need to be so heavy we can barely lift them?
Thank God for what you already have and decide – do I really need everything, including the kitchen sink?
Or are there some things I can eliminate so the load is light enough to still enjoy God’s blessings?
Today, as you pray, ask God if there are things you need to unload so you can appreciate what He’s already given you.
Ask Him to help you keep your priorities straight and no matter what – put Him at the top of your list.
