I know several, myself included.
If we’re honest with ourselves, we’re all guilty of this.
I’m reminded of the line from the movie, “A League Of Their Own.”
Tom Hanks character says of baseball, “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard… is what makes it great.”
How many of us try to live life under the same philosophy?
But God didn’t design us with a big, complicated instruction book… it’s simple.
We’re to love God and obey Him.
As imperfect people, we tend to be suspicious of anything that is easy.
For example, the salvation plan is easy, yet even Christians try to complicate it!
Obedience to God is the same.
A simple choice that we complicate with exceptions and what if’s.
But let’s put excuses aside and break this down to some elementary grammar.
“Obedience” is a noun; “obey” is a verb.
A thing and an action.
God wants your obedience (noun – thing).
You obey (verb – action).
It’s not always easy, but it is simple.
The key point is God’s never going to ask us to do something that we will regret.
He always has our best interest at heart and when He gives us a command, it may be hard; it may push us out of our comfort zone; it may challenge us — but it’s for our own good.
When God gives instruction that we don’t follow – that’s when we create REAL complexities and problems.
Because God’s will WILL prevail.
You won’t be able to thwart His plan or outrun Him.
Today, as you pray, ask God to give you a willing and obedient heart.
Ask Him to remove your fears and doubts, and any list of excuses, so you will be bold enough to simply obey.
