PRAYER PROMPT ••• Today is my Mamo’s birthday.
I won’t say how old she is because 1) she wouldn’t like it and 2) she won’t tell me.
Though she fiercely guards her age, one of the (many) things I’ve learned from her is the importance of consistency.
Growing up, she was my favorite person to play with and I couldn’t wait to spend summers with her and my Papo.
We traveled all over the place together.
Remember that story I shared the other day about driving my mom’s car up and down the driveway?
Mamo took it waaaay further…
When I traveled with her, she’d let me squish up beside her in the driver’s seat and steer the car while she worked the pedals.
Don’t judge.
It was the late 70s / early 80s.
I’m not endorsing it, and she never let me do it in traffic… it was on long stretches of rural road that stretched throughout her home state of Kentucky.
The point is, I’m aware of how important it is to have that consistent presence in life.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have several.
And we all have one and He’s the best.
Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Time doesn’t age Him.
Culture doesn’t have an impact on His values.
He doesn’t say one thing, then do another.
He doesn’t forget to show up.
He can’t get sick, and He can’t die again.
Jesus is who He is.
We can count on Him to be durable.
A steadfast presence no matter what.
What does that mean to you?
How do you take comfort in the consistent nature of Jesus Christ?
For many, past disappointments make it hard to look at someone and believe they will do what they say.
But people are human and a side effect of our sinful natures is that we will let one another down.
We all do.
Even my Mamo (though she makes it awfully hard to think of an example…)
There is only one we can trust with 1000% confidence.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for always doing what He promises and always being the same.
Thank Him for being trustworthy and consistent.
And though you’ll never be perfect at it (because it’s impossible), ask Him to help you be a model of consistency to someone else.
Ask Him to help you be consistent too in your growth as a Christian and committed to your faith every day.

What a beautiful story! And you tie it wonderfully well to our relationship with Christ! I am so grateful that He is ever faithful… even though I fail Him time and again. This is a beautiful post of grace, Denise! Thank you!
