TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? (Matthew 6:27 NLT)
PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Yesterday, I was in the car when I heard this quote on the radio: “If you’re going to worry about it, don’t bother praying about it. But if you’re going to pray about it, then don’t worry about it.”
Talk about a dropkick to the face. Because in all honesty, I’m very good about praying to God about stuff but I’m also very good at worrying about it too. (I’ve always been a multitasker.)
As far as the topic of worry and prayer goes, this isn’t my first rodeo. But these pearls of wisdom have really challenged me. When it comes to prayer and worry, I don’t have any of this mastered and often, I write these posts as much for myself, just hoping God will use them to benefit someone else too! So maybe that quote will be an eye-opener for you as well.
Jesus famously said, “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6:27 NLT). Worries do nothing but steal our joy, rob our time, and as it says in Proverbs 12:25a, “worry weighs a person down” (NLT).
We all know it. And yet we all do it. Well, most of us. Some people are good at not worrying. But most of the ones I know are under the age of five.
Maybe though that’s why Jesus told us to have faith like a child (Matthew 18:3). It’s not only about believing in Him with the guileless faith of a child… children don’t tend to be worriers.
Unfortunately, some children do have reasons to worry because of circumstances in which they are born. But for those who have a secure home and trusting relationship with their parents, there’s no need for them to worry. They know their parents will care for them, feed them, shelter, and protect them. We have a Heavenly Father who is waiting for us to trust Him to do the same for us.
I think about when I’m out with my husband. I don’t think twice about handing him everything to carry… I walk about, completely carefree, giving it all to my husband, knowing he has it all (whether he wants to or not). As great as I think Wayne is, Jesus is a zillion times better. Jesus ASKS to carry our burdens (Matthew 11:28). He isn’t just being polite… He literally WANTS to do this. So I need to start handing them over so He can carry them. I need to stop trying to juggle it all myself and remember that His arms are stronger than mine.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus that because of Him, we don’t need to worry. Thank Him for offering to carry our loads. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you hand the worries over and trust Jesus to manage them. Ask Him to equip you with childlike faith that is devoid of worry because of your trust in your Heavenly Father.
