PRAYER PROMPT ••• Do you ever wish we had on and off switches for our brains?
We are so loaded down with information!
And the news?
We are so bogged down with facts that have been blurred with opinion and diluted with speculation, it’s hard to know what’s true!
My solution is to stop watching the news, but I know that not the best answer.
It’s tiresome to sift through everything that’s said, just to find the truth.
The same can be said for knowing what God wants.
Except it actually isn’t that hard.
Throughout history, man had taken God’s Word, sprinkled their own opinions and created whole new sets of rules.
But God’s rules and man’s rules aren’t always synonymous.
This isn’t a new problem.
In Mark 7, Jesus had a few words for the religious leaders who were hung up on a hand washing ritual.
He called them hypocrites and said, “For you ignore God’s law and substitute your own tradition.” (verse 8).
A verse before, He quoted a passage from Isaiah 29:13, when the Lord said, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.”
When you look at the ways we worship; the ways we serve; the things we believe – can we back them up Biblically?
Or are they based on manmade rules and traditions?
The answer is in the Bible.
You don’t learn how to fix your TV by reading the manual for the microwave, so use the right resource!
See what God has to say about things.
Then, we don’t have to be left wondering and overthinking— is this what God wants?
He tells us through His inspired, infallible Word!
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”
And Isaiah 34:16a says, “Search the book of the Lord, and see what he will do.”
And finally, one of my favorite verses, “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8).
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to help you know what God wants and understand it.
Ask Him to help you find Truth, versus manmade rules.

Truth. Simple truth. Thank you for being so faithful to share it, dear Denise. By the way, for good or for ill, I have stopped watching the news. And it isn’t too bad actually since you can’t really escape it if you spend any time on the internet…even headlines when you open your email. :-/ Anyway, a new “fast” certainly brings a lot of personal peace. 😉 Love and hugs! <3
news “fast”… sorry, missed the “s” key. Fingers flying on the keyboard today! 🙂
