My Grace-Full Life

12.9.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Be Still

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Snowy Greetings from Winter Wonderland…
I’ve only used a personal photo on a handful of occasions for our supporting graphic, and today is one of those occasions.
That snowy yard is mine.
I’ve already made my feelings about snow very clear so I’ll leave it alone, I promise.
But I have to give snow this — the whole world seems to shut up in the snow.
Maybe it’s just where I live because in the South, were not exactly noted for our prowess in snowy conditions…
The snow does give us the opportunity to be still.
In Psalms 46:10, it says, “ Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Today, as you pray, ponder what that means.
God is always in control.
In the good, and even in the bad, He’s promised to work all things to good for His purpose (Romans 8:28).
We just have to be willing to be still.
People expect big shouts from God, but we know from Elijah’s experience told in 1 Kings 9:9-13 that God’s voice is more often in the quiet whispers.
Verse 12 is a good summation, “And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.”
Today, whether you have snow or not, take some time to be still and listen.
God is always present, but we have to remove ourselves from the distractions around us in order to hear.
Ask the Holy Spirit to quiet your soul and ask Him to help you hear the gentle whispers of God.
