My Grace-Full Life

12.9.17 Prayer Prompt: Moment by Moment

PRAYER PROMPT ••• At this moment, it’s snowing.
And apparently, I’m the only one in North Carolina who isn’t excited about it.
I don’t like snow.
The novelty was lost after I experienced four winters in Ohio.
I’m a southerner, through and through, and snow sends me into milk-and-bread-panic-mode.
I was at work when it started yesterday.
It was snowing when I left for the post office and to pick up lunch.
Within 30 minutes of being back, it was sticking to the roads.
My boss sent me home to work (thank you!!!)
But the roads I drove home were very different from the ones I’d driven only 30 minutes earlier.
They went from wet to slushy-and-slick super fast.
It was a good reminder of how a moment can change everything.
It demonstrated the vulnerability we all face when things change.
Sometimes, we can navigate the roads fairly easily and get to safety.
Other times, we have a long, tedious journey, and home never looks the same again.
It’s humbling, isn’t it?
I have watched friends have their worlds turned upside down without warning by a single moment.
And they are changed forever.
And there are the other moments that may not turn the world upside down, but tip it on its axis.
I experienced the latter myself this week as I received news I didn’t expect.
That’s why it’s so important to live every moment for Jesus.
“Jesus replied,” in Matthew 22:37, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’”
Think about the people you love.
You don’t love them only when you think of them.
Or when you see them.
Or when it’s convenient.
You love them every moment.
Why should Jesus be any different?
If we follow this command to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind – then that carries us to a life lived for Him, moment by moment.
And then, when those unexpected, world-shaking events arrive, we have the comfort of knowing He is right there with us.
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to help you live every moment for Jesus.
Ask Him to help you trust in Him, even when things change in an instant, and things feel out of control…
So you will have the confidence that He IS in control.
Every. Single. Moment.
