TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.
(Luke 10:39 ESV)
PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Oh my goodness, I am late!!! I have seriously overslept. My phone somehow powered off in the night so none of my alarm clocks went off! I am normally up by 5:15 and I didn’t get up until 8:15! UGH! I hate being late!!!
Today, I’ll keep things short.
Yesterday, after a long Sunday afternoon nap, I got up and made a snack. While snacking, I was watching MasterClass. (I bought a subscription for myself as a Christmas gift.) I’ve been watching Thomas Keller cooking classes and have finished the class on vegetables, pasta, and eggs… and now I’m learning about cooking techniques for meats, stocks, and sauces. I’m having so much fun! I‘m already a good cook, but in 2020–I’m stepping up my game to Michelin level! Haha! Maybe… One can dream…
The thing is—even though I know a lot about cooking, I’m still learning from him. He’s showing techniques and nuances that significantly impact whatever dish he’s making.
When we read the Bible, memorize the Ten Commandments and John 3:16, we aren’t finished. We haven’t mastered anything! No matter how many times we read the Bible! We have to be willing students of the Word, and let God keep teaching us… keep showing us new things to consider… and keep shaping us to be more like Jesus.
I can dream all I want to about being a chef of Michelin-level proportions, but watching these videos isn’t going to get me there. I’d need Thomas Keller to invest years with me, teaching me, and as he repeatedly says in his videos—practice, practice, practice!
Similarly, if we want to become scholars of Jesus, we have to invest the time. Spend time with Him. Let Him teach us. Let Him give us opportunities to practice our faith before others. And continue to sit at His feet, knowing He is the Master and we are the student.
We need to be like Mary who sat at the feet of Jesus to listen to His teaching (Luke 10:39).
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for being the Master and Teacher. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you be a good student, willing to invest the time at the feet of Jesus.
