PRAYER PROMPT ••• Last night, one of my husband’s cousins called me to interview me for a school project.
He is interested in becoming a writer, and one of his questions for me was, “What are some of the challenges of being a writer?”
I told him that writers can’t be afraid to be alone; it’s a very isolating activity.
They have to be okay with their own company.
After we finished the conversation, I thought about that.
It’s true in many ways.
I can be by myself for days on end, and I’m okay with that.
I have the kind of personality that prefers to either be alone, with a friend, or very small group.
Large groups make me anxious.
But I know a lot of people feel the exact opposite.
They crave the presence of other people, and their anxiety kicks in over solitude.
It’s one of those things that makes us all unique.
But for those who have accepted Christ, the reality is – we are never alone.
Jesus is always with me.
He’s always with you.
And He has been since we each asked Him to save us.
Though I held Him at arm’s length for years, since I recommitted myself to Christ, I know how true the song lyrics, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
He is my Friend.
Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
And in Psalm 73:23, the writer of the Psalm talks about being with God, “Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.”
While that verse is written from the perspective of the writer, note the action in the second part – “YOU hold my right hand.”
That’s not the writer’s action, that’s God’s.
He is beside us no matter where we are or what we do.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for being a friend.
Thank Him for never leaving your side and for holding your hand every step of the way.
