12.28.17 Prayer Prompt: Fear Factors

PRAYER PROMPT ••• This morning, I finished reading my Bible and devotions and was thinking about what to write for MGFL when I looked up and saw a light coming in through the sliding glass door.
Fear clutched at me because the light seemed to be moving.
Friends, it looked like someone had a flashlight on my back porch.
I jumped up and ran to the bedroom.
Logic should have told me everything was fine.
My husband was still sleeping, and my dog was calm.
She watched me like I was crazy, as I squinted through the blinds.
I couldn’t see the light from my bedroom window, so I did something I probably should have done to begin with, and put on my glasses (I don’t read with them on so I never pick them up first thing).
Once I put them on, I tiptoed back to the living room to look out the sliding glass door.
I discovered the scary light was a porch light from the development behind me and because my oak tree’s branches were swaying in the wind, it looked like the light was moving.
I sat down and recognized the situation for what it was: an illusion of my own making.
Sound familiar to anyone else?
I can be really good at inventing scenarios to worry about.
And 99.9% of the time, I’m completely wrong.
The shadows of our imaginations are powerful and can turn logic and security into fear and uncertainty.
But we serve the one and only all-powerful God who knows everything, including our futures.
He is the security in the middle of any fear we face.
After I settled back down, I read the verse from Psalm 56:3, “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.”
A few years ago, a meme began circling social media that said “do not fear” was in the Bible 365 times – a reminder for every day of the year.
As lovely as that idea is, it’s not true.
We aren’t told 365 times not to be afraid, but it does come up a lot!
And the thing is, even if it were only written once, based on our trust in Jesus, shouldn’t that be enough?
Fears happen.
But God is bigger.
Today, as you pray, thank God for being there in all situations, including the ones when we’re afraid.
Thank Him for being bigger than any fear and knowing your future and His plans for you, as promised in Jeremiah 29:11.
