12.23.17 Prayer Prompt: Can We Pray Too Much?

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Have you ever had a friend who just talks your ear off?
They are incessant with their talk, talk, talking to the point you want to scream, “Be quiet!”
I’m sure we all know at least one person like that, and if we’re honest about it, we may even BE that person at times!
I’m a pretty quiet person, but with my family and a handful of close friends, I’ve been told to “Be quiet!” on more than a few hundred occasions.
What about when it comes to talking to God?
I think most of us wonder if we’re praying enough, but do you ever wonder if you can pray too much?
Do you worry about bothering God with trivial matters that are irrelevant in the big, grand scheme of things?
Good news: you can’t pray too much.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Never stop praying.”
Friends, I don’t think you get much more succinct than that.
Romans 12:12 tells us, “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
What about the trivial matters?
Can we pray about the little things without getting on God’s nerves?
More good news: absolutely.
1 Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
And even Jesus said to give it to Him in Matthew 11:28-30.
He didn’t say, “Just bring me the big stuff, you can carry the rest by yourself.”
At no time in Scripture, did the Lord put stipulations on what we pray to Him about.
We can’t bother Him when we come to Him with sincere prayers.
At some point, as I’ve learned, He may want us to re-evaluate.
Are we praying to Him or worrying to Him?
We need to be cautious about that, and ensure our prayers have strong roots of trust in His omniscience and omnipotence.
But imagine this scenario: you’re in heaven and worshipping God with countless others.
Do you want Him to think, “I haven’t heard that voice in a while!”
Or would you rather Him think, “Well I know who that voice belongs to!”
Today, as you pray, thank God that He gives us permission to pray all the time and about both the big and small stuff.
Thank Him for not putting restrictions on our prayers.
Tell Him you can’t wait to see His smile in heaven when your familiar voice lifts up praise for Him.
