PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• When it comes to our world today, many claim they are out to “Live My Best Life.”
I get the concept.
We have one life to live, make the most of it.
However, there’s a couple of major flaws in the theory.
First – life doesn’t end with death.
One of two things happens after death.
Either we go on to enjoy eternal life with Jesus in heaven, or we suffer eternal agony in hell.
The choice is ours…
But our souls will exist forever one way or the other.
John 5:28-29 says, “Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.”
Since we have a choice for our eternal destiny, here’s the second major flaw in the “live your best life” theory.
Life on earth is far from perfect…
It’s full of heartache, sickness, fear, and sin.
The only place where we can really live our best life is going to be heaven (of course, to get there requires accepting Jesus as our Savior).
So this can’t be our best life.
There’s too many things wrong for it to be our best.
But with all that said – I do believe it’s possible to live a “best life” here on earth…
Or the best we can make it this side of heaven.
But many won’t agree.
Because the world’s best life theory is selfish in nature, and the true best life comes from denying yourself and doing as Jesus said in Matthew 16:24-25, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
Any attempt to live a successful best life on earth is to surrender ourselves and embrace God’s will (Romans 12:1-2)…
It means loving others as ourselves (Matthew 22:39)…
It means praying for our enemies (Matthew 5:44).
But it also means embracing the words of James, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” (James 1:2-3).
If we do this, then we can truly say that on earth, we’ve lived our best life as we wait for our homecoming in heaven (Philippians 3:20-21).
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for the opportunity to truly live a best life.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you live according to God’s will every day, with every breath, thought, word, and action.
Ask Him to lead you into the very best life you can have this side of heaven.
