My Grace-Full Life

12.15.17 Prayer Prompt: Giving

PRAYER PROMPT ••• First, I want to thank y’all for praying for me yesterday.
A trip to the DMV shouldn’t be a big deal, but I was waaaay overdue for some updates, so I dreaded the process.
Thankfully, my license is renewed, and I am good to go for eight more years.
Thank you!
Today, let’s talk about giving.
It’s a topic on everyone’s mind this time of year.
But I admit, I haven’t really been into it the last few years.
I don’t exchange gifts with many people anymore.
My friend, Tip and I’ve agreed that going forward – all gifts for each other will be in the form of a donation to a charity that we each care about.
She’s given me a list of her top causes, and she has mine.
It’s much easier, and we’re both happy with this arrangement.
And last night, I set up one of those donate-for-my-birthday events on Facebook.
I love this idea; what a wonderful way to celebrate by giving to a cause!
Giving is something talked about often in Scripture.
The Apostle Paul said in Acts 20:35, “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Isn’t that the truth?
The older I get, the more I realize how much better I feel giving rather than getting.
And in Luke 6:38, Jesus tells us, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
These words directly from the Man who was born to give His life for all of us so that we can be saved and know Him.
And THAT is the best gift any of us can receive.
It’s bigger than any want or any need.
It is a gift that will give to us for eternity.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for the greatest gift – His salvation.
But also, ask Him to help you be a cheerful, eager giver to those who need your time, talent, money, or even your encouragement.
Ask Him to help you give from a heart that loves, and not from a spirit of obligation.
