PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• The story of Solomon is fascinating to me.
His prayer for wisdom resulted in an abundance of blessings from God.
When he was anointed as King, Solomon started off strong, following in the path of his father King David who sought the Lord.
He asked God for wisdom and God poured it out abundantly.
Of Solomon’s wisdom, God said, “I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.” (1 Kings 3:12).
Yet, over time, Solomon lost his way.
Solomon lost his focus on God and let others distract him.
And as a result, his actions and choices angered the one true living God.
When we look at Solomon’s life, there’s much to be learned.
But as a general overview, I see two major lessons.
First, to ask God for wisdom.
If He was willing to give wisdom to Solomon, He is willing to give it to any believer who asks.
We don’t ask for wisdom for prideful reasons but to have greater understanding of God’s will.
The second lesson from Solomon is the importance of being God-focused.
Distractions are all around us.
Even in our own heads, we can distracted by random thoughts, or not-so-random thoughts that circle our minds and consume us.
Keeping our hearts and minds anchored on Jesus is key to staying on the right path God wants us to take.
Today, as you pray, ask the Lord for wisdom so that you can be more discerning.
And ask the Holy Spirit to help you stay focused on Jesus, and not be tempted by the distractions that can get you off course.
