My Grace-Full Life

12.11.17 Prayer Prompt: I Am Weak But He Is Strong

PRAYER PROMPT ••• There is a video circulating on Facebook of a “human flag.”
This guy can do all kinds of acrobatic tricks while holding himself perpendicular on a flagpole.
It’s an extraordinary example of physical strength.
When we talk about strength, this is generally what we’re talking about.
Being muscular and body-strong.
But the heart strength that comes from Jesus is what endures.
A person can spend hours upon hours in a gym perfecting their body, but when it’s all said and done, their body will wear out just like everyone else’s.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying we shouldn’t try to be strong and healthy.
I’m saying physical strength isn’t going to last forever.
Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
I love this verse.
One of my friends owns a Pilates studio and uses this verse as the inspiration for her business name, “Inner Strength Pilates.”
Her tagline is, “Where does YOUR inner strength come from?”
It’s a great word-bridge to encourage both physical and spiritual strength.
She recognizes the truth that while physical strength is important, our spiritual strength through Jesus is more so.
We aren’t strong enough to walk through every valley that life brings, or climb every mountain that is in our path.
We need Jesus.
Or we crumble.
The Apostle Paul knew this truth too.
It was his pen that wrote the verse above in Philippians, and he also wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
When God gives us a task that seems far beyond our pay-grade (so to speak), of course, it’s overwhelming.
But it’s the trust we demonstrate in Him that allows His greatness to shine through us.
And in our weakness, He is strong.
Today, as you pray, thank God for being strong enough for every situation.
Thank Him for working through you so others can see His strength.
