PRAYER PROMPT ••• Thanksgiving is over; Black Friday is behind us; it’s officially the Christmas season.
Though Hobby Lobby has had Christmas decor out since Fourth of July.
But that’s a different topic.
We have exactly 30 days as of this Prayer Prompt to get ready.
For me, it’s easy.
Our family is teeny tiny (I call it the Family Twig) and we’re not exchanging gifts this year.
We gave experiences earlier in the year (remember – I got to go to She Speaks for Christmas / birthday!), so for us – it’s just about planning the meal, and Honey Baked Ham always takes care of the main course.
However, our small plans aside, I recognize what a stressful time this is for most and how in the chaos of to-do lists and the countdown to parties and events, a primary prayer for many will be, “Lord, why did I think it was a good idea to invite all these people??”
It is so easy, with bright twinkling lights in our eyes, to lose the focus of what Christmas really means.
Isaiah 9:6 reminds us that the birth of Jesus was foretold 700-some years before He was born in Bethlehem, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Christmas is all about our Messiah, the Lord of Lords, our Savior, and Redeemer.
As we search out the perfect gifts, let’s remember the wisdom of James 1:17a, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.”
The gifts under the tree won’t last, but we’ve all been offered the ultimate gift of a forever-life with Jesus!
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep perspective of the season.
To remind you that while we will exchange gifts, we should spend more time thank Jesus for His gift…
For being born, living, dying and resurrecting to give us the chance to be fully restored to God…
And live forever with Him in heaven.
