11.23.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Fruit With a Side of Wisdom

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• One of my favorite Bible verses (I have a lot of them!) is James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
I love that we can pray for wisdom.
It’s a comfort during difficult seasons that we can earnestly pray for wisdom on important decisions and trust that God will pour it out lavishly when we trust Him to do so.
But what is wisdom?
A few chapters later, James further explains heavenly wisdom in 3:17, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.”
Wisdom isn’t just about being smart and knowing how to make good and responsible decisions.
Read that list again…
Notice the Fruits of the Spirit identified from heavenly wisdom?
While not verbatim, they’re all there — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Isn’t that a great truth?
That true wisdom embodies the very characteristics that we should embrace as Christians!
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom.
Ask Him to help you navigate difficult situations with wisdom infused by the very Fruits of the Spirit.
