11.14.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Where We Put Our Trust

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Fun fact about me: I don’t like bridges.
I’m not so fearful that I won’t cross them, but I always breathe a little easier when I’m on the other side.
However, there’s one bridge I refuse to cross…
It’s the Mile High Swinging Bridge at Grandfather Mountain in NC.
I’ll stand at the edge of it, but I can’t bring myself to actually go out to the middle.
I don’t trust the engineering, though decades of other tourists have successfully crossed.
I was thinking this morning about how often we put our faith in the manmade but are skeptical of the Creator of the world.
Psalm 118:8 says, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
The thing is, no matter how secure a bridge is, or how sea-worthy a ship, or air-worthy a plane, or well-designed a car…
Manmade items are never 100% reliable.
Ever.
It doesn’t matter how many people successfully cross, board, or ride — there is always a risk involved.
And relationships are the same.
No matter how much love is present, people are people and we will always run the risk of hurt and disappointment.
I’m not trying to make everyone paranoid, but emphasize the truth…
The only One we can put 100% confidence and full trust in is God!
And the psalmist was right…
It is a far better investment of our trust in our Heavenly Father than anything or anyone else.
Today, as you pray, acknowledge to the Holy Spirit that too often, you rely on things and people when your full trust should always be in Him.
Ask Him to help you trust and recognize the supreme authority of the Lord in all things.
