PRAYER PROMPT ••• Today is the one year anniversary of this blog, My Grace-Full Life.
The Prayer Prompts didn’t begin until about four months in, but I posted various thoughts and essays pretty regularly early on.
It’s been a wonderful year of growth for me, and I’m grateful to all of you who have read, encouraged, and shared these posts.
I actually made a little iMovie for the occasion that will post to Facebook at 8am.
Unfortunately, Facebook decided not to post my original version with music, so I’m afraid you’ll have to hum along if you decide to watch it.
I’m also going to announce a Facebook contest at noon today, to celebrate this milestone.
Please stay tuned for that.
But until then, let’s talk about one of the lessons I’ve learned this year: light.
We love sunshiny days.
We open the windows to let the light in.
This Christmas season, we’ll gather in the car to drive around and look at twinkling lights.
And we are frequent users of the flashlight app when we drop things under our desks at work (or maybe that’s just me).
But for all our enjoyment of light, the world discourages the light of faith.
To shine bright for Jesus is something we’re often scared to do for fear of being ridiculed or judged.
We’re also worried of offending others, with the spiritual equivalent of turning hitting the iPhone’s home button in a dark room (blinding!)
But here’s two secrets I’ve learned:
- it doesn’t matter what others say about you or think about you if you’re doing what God’s told you to do, and
- your courage to be a light often empowers others to do the same.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Today, as you pray, thank God for the light He has lit within you and ask Him to give you courage to shine brightly for Jesus!
Ask the Holy Spirit to radiate from your life in a way that no one can question how you believe.
