My Grace-Full Life

10.3.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: The Only Thing That Lasts

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I am writing this morning from Cincinnati, OH. I arrived last night after driving for what felt like a million years. I came to see my father-in-law; I mentioned a few days ago that he has cancer. I was able to see him for a little bit last night and will see him today. We continue to appreciate your prayers.

As I think about a drive that seems never-ending and a life that is coming to a close, we really do have a warped perception of time.

I complained and seriously exaggerated about a drive that dragged on and on, but how often do we think our lives will just keep going and going? James 4:14b says, “For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes” (CSB). And Jesus spoke of limits too.

Our signature verse today comes from Matthew 24 and the parable of the fig tree. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35 CSB).

Jesus is the only promise we have for eternity. His words and promises are the only guarantee we have… and we have two options. We either accept Jesus’ words as the truth and spend eternity in heaven, or we reject them and spend eternity separated from Jesus in hell.

I believe in Jesus and know that I’m a sinner who is only saved by His gift of grace (Ephesians 2:8-9). The words He cried out from the cross were about me and you and yes—those words last forever.

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for His everlasting words and His grace. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you lean on Jesus because, without Him, we are all lost.
