10.2.20 Praise & Prayer Prompt: An Important Message to Share

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38 ESV)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Y’all, I have said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again — there’s a truth about communication in our modern world. We have phones, texts, emails, fax (yes – shockingly, some people still use fax), social media, messenger, and more… and yet for all the brilliance of our modern communication, we may as well be using smoke signals. We are terrible communicators. We trip over words, misconstrue texts and emails, and forget to share important details. We read between the lines and make assumptions of things that aren’t there. And with 68% of smart phone users preferring texting over talking, we feel disconnected from others and very isolated. In short – our communication leaves much to be desired.

Despite our shortcomings in the world of communication, we have an important message to be shared — the gospel of Jesus Christ! Y’all, it’s not optional. If you are a believer in Christ, YOU have been called to tell others.  Besides the Great Commission of Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).

The harvest isn’t necessarily on some foreign mission field, though certainly — we need missionaries.  The harvest may be a person at the coffee shop. Or a person bagging your groceries. Or even a person in your own home.

I know I keep writing about this a lot, but honestly – it’s so heavy on me. COVID has isolated us even more. Depression is up. Suicides are up. Abuse is up. The world is in desperate need for some good news and there is no news better than the GREAT news about Jesus. As my favorite band, Mercy Me says, “It’s not good news — it’s the best news ever!”

Jesus didn’t ask you to beat people over the heads with Bibles and you don’t need to change careers and get a degree in theology. Remember, He doesn’t call the equipped, but He equips the called. And He calls every Christian to share about His gift of salvation.

And if that’s not enough to convince you of your responsibility, consider this — someone took a chance and told you about Jesus.  Don’t you want to do the same for someone else?

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for His salvation. Ask the Holy Spirit to equip you to be a laborer for the harvest. Ask Him to use you where you are and to help you trust in His direction and provision. And ask Him to remind your heart that you don’t have to know exactly what to do or say because we have the same promise of Jesus in John 14:26, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
