PRAYER PROMPT ••• Hello, my name is Denise and I’m a control freak.
Delegating doesn’t come easy for me; I prefer to do things on my own.
If you know me personally, you’re probably thinking, “Thanks for pointing that out, Captain Obvious.”
But God opened my eyes with a serious truth-bomb last night and He’s reiterated it this morning.
My prayers haven’t been rooted in trust the way they should be.
I have spent hours, pleading with God over one situation repeatedly.
To the point I’m no longer praying.
I’m fretting.
And God’s telling me to stop.
For now.
I wrote about “selah” yesterday (pause, praise, pray) and in a demonstration of what I’ve been saying for seven months – God used a Prayer Prompt for my benefit as much as for anyone who reads them.
Last night, a friend reminded me that pausing doesn’t mean giving up; it means trusting God knows and is working on it.
It’s learning to surrender rather than constantly elbowing God with, “Are You almost finished yet? How ’bout now? You done yet? Huh? Huh? Huh?”
This morning, I was reading from Jeremiah 17:7-8 which says, “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
The illustration of the trees spoke to me in a powerful way.
I need to dig my roots into the Living Water and stop worrying TO God, but simply trust.
Friends, I’m coming to you today with this admission to be accountable, but to also ask for your prayers.
This isn’t easy for me to push pause on this prayer request.
But God knows it.
I need to leave it with Him and get past the anxiety of my own timeline.
I appreciate your prayers.
As you’re praying, if, like me, you find praying is turning into fretting, ask God to give you Scripture that will help you push pause, and trust Him.
Today, as you pray, thank God that He knows our hearts even better than we do.
Thank Him for being trustworthy in every situation, even if, like me, it’s a lesson you have to learn over and over again.
One Response
Once again you have done a great job! Right when I need it most you know what to say and you always talk about the subject that I need or have needed to hear. There needs to be a love button instead of a like button.
