1.9.18 Prayer Prompt: Confident Faith

PRAYER PROMPT ••• I think people who skydive are absolutely crazy.
(No offense if that’s you. If I’m honest, I’m a little bit jealous, but not enough to try it.)
The amount of trust these people have in fabric and rope is astounding.
I’m such a control-freak that I can’t imagine surrendering to that level of abandon.
But I can only imagine the view.
It’s a confident faith.
This morning, I read the story of when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac.
An even braver act of confident faith.
I wish there were more detail in this story.
Did Abraham argue with God?
Did he ask God to repeat Himself (“You want me to do WHAT?!?”)?
Did Abraham cry?
We don’t know Abraham’s reaction or details about his personal anguish.
But we do know that there wasn’t time for the grass to grow under Abraham’s obedience.
Genesis 22:3 says Abraham got up the next morning to prepare.
No procrastination; he got up and obeyed.
This isn’t normal trust, y’all!
This is extraordinary trust.
As they arrived near the offering site, Isaac asked, “Where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” (Genesis 22:7b)
Abraham answered in verse 8a, “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son.”
This is another detail I wish were included.
How did Isaac react when it was clear HE was the offering?
Did he scream?
Try to wrestle away?
Or did he share his father’s obedient nature and trust?
Then, when God provided a ram, and he was untied, did Isaac mistrust Abraham to any degree?
There’s no evidence that he did since verse 13-19 talks of the sacrifice they made with the ram and walking back down to meet their servants.
It doesn’t say Isaac ran ahead of his father to the security of other people who were waiting on them.
I am amazed by Abraham’s confident faith.
I want that kind of faith.
If God tells me to jump out of the plane – safety parachute or not – what will I do?
What will you do?
God gives us a choice, but obedience, given through extraordinary, confident faith, always brings the greatest reward.
Today, as you pray, ask God to help you obey immediately; just as Abraham did.
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the same kind of confident faith that doesn’t question, but just does.

  1. In today’s terms you are right….it would be like Abraham and Isaac would be like sky diving with no chute, bungy jump with too LONG of a rope, taking off in a plane without enough fuel, white water rapid riding on a boat named Titantic….impossible is one of God’s specialties…I just wish I could believe like Abraham, and maybe even more so, like Isaac!
