PRAYER PROMPT ••• This week, I have been anything but still.
I’ve had something to do every evening after work.
In fact, last night was the first night I went straight home from work with nothing else planned.
But I left again inside of 15 minutes so my husband and I could go to Costco.
Sitting still is hard.
And even if we do have a moment to sit, how often are we still?
We’ve got a smartphone in our hands, keeping us engaged on anything except the opportunity to be silent and listen to God.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
Most of us are familiar with the first command, “Be still and know that I am God,” but how often are we addressing the second part about honoring Him?
When He says He will be honored by every nation and throughout the world, that starts with us.
We have to honor Him, but does it honor Him to be so go-go-go that we can’t make time for Him?
We’re all busy; our culture pretty much demands it.
And I’d be the pot calling the kettle black if I didn’t admit that I pack my calendar full of to-dos.
Even if it’s from work-straight-home, it’s rare for me to say I don’t have something to do.
I like to stay busy.
But I have to be intentional about carving out time that’s reserved for just God and me.
Otherwise, I can’t juggle everything else.
I’m speaking from a voice of experience.
I wasted years spinning my wheels with busyness but never feeling purposeful.
With God in the equation, and taking the time to be still with Him, a greater purpose becomes so much clearer.
Today is the perfect kind of morning to simply sit.
I have things to do, but they can wait.
After this is posted, I’m going to refill my coffee, and simply sit still.
And talk to God for a bit.
And then be quiet and listen.
And honor Him through prayer and gratitude.
Today, as you pray, ask God to remind you to stop and be still.
To recognize His great goodness.
To give you opportunities to show Him honor.
If you are struggling to find time for God, ask Him to help show you how to rebalance your priorities so that He is at the top of your list where He belongs.
