PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• As much as I try to ignore the news, I haven’t been able to ignore the headlines about NY’s new stance on abortion.
I don’t use my page as a political platform and I’m not going to start…
For me, it’s a moral issue and I am unflinchingly pro-life.
Before I continue, let me make a few points very clear —
- I am not judging anyone;
- I absolutely refuse to get into a debate, nor will I condone one on my page; and
- This is my personal blog and as much as I work to be respectful to those who are kind enough to read my work, this is how I believe.
Just as I am not ashamed of my faith, I make no apologies for being pro-life.
Finally, without getting into a heated exchange, the last thing I’ll say is this…
How can someone be charged with murder if a pregnant woman who WANTS her baby is harmed to the extent that she miscarries?
But if that same woman walked into an abortion clinic, it’s acceptable to terminate her pregnancy and abort her baby.
I can’t wrap my head around that logic.
Beyond the obvious passages about how God formed us in our mother’s wombs (Psalm 139:13-16), the verse that keeps coming to mind as I look at headlines is John 10:10 which says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
Friends, our society embraces the idea that we are empowered.
The world says, “Do what’s right for you.”
Jesus challenges us— “Do what’s right.”
It’s not about us, what’s convenient, or who does or doesn’t know what we’re doing.
And I’m way beyond abortion now.
Let’s think about that in any context…
Is it okay to steal as long as no one knows about it?
What about if you really need something to eat?
Does taking something that’s not yours really make a difference or harm someone else, as long as you’re quiet about your actions?
We can ask similar questions on any number of issues…
We’ve muddied the waters in so many ways.
We’ve created loopholes that aren’t within our authority to create.
But God gave us life and Jesus paved the way for us to live it with abundance and purpose.
We rob ourselves of that joy when we are focused on ourselves and what’s convenient for us rather than what is best for others.
My husband can easily tell you that a quick way to ruffle my feathers is to say, “Sometimes you’ve got to look out for #1.”
Unless, by #1, you mean Jesus, then I have a problem with that philosophy.
Jesus said in Luke 6:31, “And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.”
Our choices matter.
Not just in our personal lives, but in the lives of those around us.
From families to strangers, to those too small to have their own voice…
We can’t know the impact of our actions when we’re focused on ourselves and what’s best for us.
If you knew the impact you had on others, would you make the same choices?
If Jesus came to give us life abundantly, and we live that way, the impact we can have would be far-reaching and have eternal significance.
And that’s the kind of difference I want to make.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for designing life to be lived with the abundant joy that comes through faith in Him.
Ask the Holy Spirit to move our country to a much-needed spiritual revival.
We need fewer opinions and far fewer politics…
We need so much more Jesus.
