1.22.20 Praise & Prayer Prompt: No Ifs

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel[d] have I found such faith.” (Matthew 8:10 ESV)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Dwight L. Moody once said, “Faith takes God without any ifs.”

There’s a mic-drop for you. Wow. Such a powerful and succinct statement!

When it comes to faith, one of my favorite stories in the Bible is about the Roman Centurion’s faith. This event is recorded in Matthew 8:5-13. The Centurion’s servant was sick and he said to Jesus, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly…Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed” (Matthew 8:6,8).

No doubt. No questions. No ifs.

In verse 10, Jesus responded to the man’s faith. It says, “When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.”

I want that kind of unwavering, no ifs or buts kind of faith. I want a faith that has no room or tolerance for doubt because it is rooted in the rock-solid certainty that with God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). And I want a faith that, like the Roman Centurion’s, is so strong and unwavering, it has the power to amaze even Jesus.

Jesus is God. His reaction to that faith just blows my mind. I know technically, it wasn’t a surprise to Him because He is all-knowing. But to stand before Jesus… with an amazing faith that blows HIS mind?!?! Yeah. That’s my goal.

Today, as you pray, thank God for including this example of unwavering faith in Scripture. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower your heart with a faith that never seems limits, but recognizes that with God, all things are possible. Ask Him to equip you with the amazing faith of a Roman Centurion.
