My Grace-Full Life

1.21.18 Prayer Prompt: The Real Stuff

PRAYER PROMPT ••• When I was 16, I decided I would never ski again.
The short version: I couldn’t figure out how to get off the ski lift.
I accidentally ended up on the advanced slope.
I was knocked into a snowmaking machine.
I lost a ski.
I fell down a lot.
I made it back with one ski dragging behind me, just as the search team was on their way out to find me.
So no, I don’t think skiing sounds very fun.
Besides, strapping on long, thin pieces of wood to slide down a mountain without a brake pedal just seems wrong.
All that to get on the topic of what’s real.
Let’s look at the snowmaker that I once had a close encounter with.
A snowmaker manufacturer would argue that it’s not “fake” snow.
It’s made from cold water and air.
So it’s manmade but real.
People who actually like to ski would say it’s not the same.
The manmade snow is close, but it comes up short.
The same can be said for religions.
In John 14:6, “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
He is the real deal, and there are no manmade substitutes that compare to what He offers.
Too many religions make up their own rules about what qualities someone for eternal life in heaven.
But we can’t make those rules.
Sure, we can teach how to be a good person, but that’s morality.
It doesn’t offer salvation.
If your church isn’t preaching that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, they are producing manmade fluff.
It will never compare to the real truth.
This isn’t about denominations, but the core values of what a church believes and teaches.
If we believe watered down half-truths of God’s word, manipulated to our own purposes, we’ve missed the point.
If you’re not sure, seek the truth and you’ll find it.
Deuteronomy 4:29 says, “But from there you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.”
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to help those who are seeking what’s real.
Ask Him to stir a revival in our country, to move hearts, and show others the truth that can’t be manufactured any other way: That Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior and only through Him can we be saved.
