PRAYER PROMPT ••• One of my favorite things is a good fairy tale.
When I was growing up, I didn’t so much read them as I devoured them.
In the 4th and 5th grades, I had progressed to reading thousand page collections of fairy tales from around the world.
My all-time favorite is called “The White Cat,” and it was published in France during the 1600s.
The common theme in fairy tales (especially the ones Disney gets ahold of), is the need for someone to be rescued.
Sometimes, it’s a prince-turned-toad who is waiting to be kissed.
But often, it’s a princess.
And a knight on a white horse shows up just in time to get the job done.
A “progressive,” “modern,” and feminist view would be “I don’t need the white horse or the knight. I’ll rescue myself.”
Both men and women mistakenly think they are enough.
That’s the kind of thinking that creates trouble, and that will eventually be a source of great regret for many.
We all need a Savior.
Romans 3:23 says, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
And we can’t fix it.
Nothing we say or do is going to save ourselves.
A few verses later, in Romans 3:27, it says, “Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.”
Jesus Christ offered salvation when He died on a cross 2000 years ago.
He didn’t come on a great steed, with a sword raised high, but our hero came as a humble servant.
And Romans 10:13 says, “For ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
Our salvation is a matter of faith, but make no mistake…
When Jesus returns for the battle of the ages, He will be on the white horse!
Revelation 19:11 describes it, “Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.”
Jesus did more than any fairy tale prince charming could – because He voluntarily sacrificed Himself on behalf of our guilt and sinful natures.
Accepting Jesus as the Son of God and acknowledging that His blood has the power to cleanse us of our sins is how we go from being in distress to rescued.
He didn’t wear armor, but His bravery in the war against death is legendary.
The war wages on, but our gallant white Knight is already victorious over the enemy (Revelation 20:1-15)!
We don’t need to stand by while He fights the dragon; if we accept Him, we are already saved.
The dragon can’t touch us.
While life isn’t a fairy tale, we’re ALL in need of rescue.
We all need saving.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for being the hero we all need.
Thank Him for being stronger than our enemy and thank Him that through faith, we can be rescued from eternity in hell.
Thank Him for being your Savior.

I absolutely love this… but of course, I’m a huge fan of “fairy tales” and Tolkien… such truth in those stories. Thank you for your beautiful post.
