1.17.18 Prayer Prompt: Your Forecast

PRAYER PROMPT ••• I really don’t like it when the weatherman’s predictions about snow come true.
But unfortunately, the forecast was accurate.
Everyone on Facebook has been obsessively comparing notes about the weather and what each weatherman is predicting.
I think it’s natural to want to know what’s coming.
Life is unpredictable, and it’s important to be flexible enough to go with the curveballs.
But weather is a whole other matter.
Especially for those of us in the South; we don’t deal with snow often enough to really know how to handle it.
We want to know what to expect.
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses.
It says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”
We often stop right there, but today, when you think of your own personal forecast, I want to keep reading to verses 12, 13, and 14a.
“‘In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord.”
Let’s list all the promises found in that short passage:
1) God knows His plans. It’s not a matter of a prediction (which is an educated guess); it’s a matter of fact.
2) His plans are good, and not designed to harm us.
An important thing to remember though – He never said it would be easy.
He has said we WILL have troubles on this earth (John 16:33), but He is more concerned with our eternal, spiritual well-being than He is our temporary, physical one (Matthew 10:28).
3) He listens when we pray.
I love that!!
He doesn’t say He hears us; He says He listens!
Big difference between hearing and listening!
4) He promises He can be found if we search for Him.
God isn’t illusively hiding; He’s eager to be discovered by those who want to know Him!
That’s some powerful reassurance when the forecasts of life seem uncertain!
Today, as you pray, thank God for all these promises!
Thank Him that He didn’t use uncertain predictions, but all-knowing promises when He’s set the course for your future!
Ask Him to help you seek Him in all situations.
