PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I’m an early riser, but I’m not an early morning communicator.
I set my 10 alarms to go off at 5-10 minute intervals between 4:55-5:45 AM, so I can wake up slowly.
Getting a 5 AM phone call from my son this morning jarred me awake when I wasn’t ready.
I don’t even know what he wanted.
He goes to work at 4 AM so all I remember is he sounded wide awake and chipper.
Way more than I did or felt.
So right now, I feel like I’m in a fog.
This is one of those mornings when I could really use a coffee IV.
So I apologize in advance. I am writing this, fervently praying it will make sense.
I’m really not a morning person, but over the last few years, I’ve trained myself to get up early because this is the best time of day for me to study God’s Word.
The Bible talks of the morning often, including Mark 1:35 which tells of Jesus getting up early in the morning to pray.
But whatever time of day works for you is between you and God…
My mom does her Bible study at night.
There’s nothing wrong with that, but for me, morning works best.
The important thing to remember is that our prayer life isn’t confined to a particular part of the day.
Psalm 130:6 says, “…my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”
While the Psalmist compared himself to “watchmen for the morning,” notice he didn’t put a time slot on himself.
He wrote, “my soul waits for the Lord.”
Our prayer life should be a part of every moment of our day.
Our souls should be ever diligent to seek God in anything and everything we say and do.
And in doing so, let’s skootch backward to verse five, “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope…”
When we’re constantly diligent in our prayer life, waiting on the Lord, we find hope when we study His word.
And hope is a beautiful gift from God.
Today, as you pray, thank God for the privilege of studying His word.
Thank Him for the freedom to open your Bible daily, at any time of day, even electronically, so that you can take hope in His promises.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you be as diligent as the watchmen the Psalmist wrote about…
